Daiichi Sankyo, in collaboration with AMDA Multisectoral and Integrated Development Services, launched a campaign titled "the Promotion of breast and cervical cancer prevention through early detection and treatment in Honduras".

Clinic Health Volunteers

In Honduras, breast cancer is the most common cancer among women followed by cervical cancer. Research shows that breast cancer primarily affects women aged 40 to 60, while cervical cancer mainly impacts women aged 30 to 64. In response, the Honduran government prioritized tackling breast and cervical cancer, as well as other non-communicable diseases in its 2021 National Health Plan. Consequently, the government has been equipping hospitals, training healthcare professionals, and implementing educational activities for local residents. However, expanding access to prevention activities and treatment in rural areas, where 40% of the population lives, has become a pressing issue, because most of the government’s support is concentrated in urban areas. Moreover, many women face local challenge not undergoing cancer screening regularly or at all, due to lack of information knowledge. Given this background, this project engages in activities aimed at improving access to medical care by providing educational activities, screening, and treatment for breast and cervical cancer in 4 municipalities in El Paraiso Department.

Through these activities, we will contribute to the achievement of Goal 3: “Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages” and Goal 5: “Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls” of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
