Daiichi Sankyo, in collaboration with AMDA Multisectoral and Integrated Development Services, launched the Promotion of breast and cervical cancer prevention through early detection and treatment in Honduras.

Clinic Health Volunteers

In Honduras, breast cancer is the most common cancer among women followed by cervical cancer, and research shows that women age 40 to 60 are most afflicted by breast cancer while women age 30 to 64 are most afflicted by cervical cancer. In response, the Honduran government named breast cancer, cervical cancer, and other non-communicable diseases as the highest priority issues in its National Health Plan 2021 and has been equipping hospitals, developing healthcare professionals, and implementing educational activities for local residents. However, as most of the government’s support is concentrated in the urban areas, expanding access to prevention activities and treatment in the rural areas where 40% of the population lives has become a pressing issue. Moreover, it is a well-known fact that many women do not undergo cancer screening in time or at all, due to lack of information and knowledge, etc.
Given this background, this project engages in activities aiming to improve access to medical cares by providing educational activities, screening and treatment for breast and cervical cancer in 3 municipalities in El Paraiso Department.

Through these activities, we will contribute to the achievement of Goal 3 “Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages” and Goal 5 “Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls” of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
