Update on Daiichi Sankyo Operations Following the Tohoku Pacific Offshore Earthquake

Tokyo, March 25, 2011 – Daiichi Sankyo Company, Limited again offers its deepest sympathy to all those affected by the devastating March 11 Tohoku Pacific Offshore Earthquake. The following is an update of the areas of the Daiichi Sankyo Group that were affected.

1.Production Facilities

(1) Onahama Plant (Iwaki-shi, Fukushima Prefecture)

Operations at this plant, which produces active pharmaceutical ingredients including pravastatin and olmesartan, are currently suspended. There was no major structural harm to the facilities, but a detailed inspection of the damage is not yet completed. Once plant inspections are carried out, further information will be provided.

(2) Hiratsuka Plant (Hiratsuka-shi, Kanagawa Prefecture)

Operations at this plant, which produces oral and injectable dosage forms, such as Olmetec®, Calblock® and Mevalotin®, have been mostly suspended. However, efforts to restore plant operations are underway and production is expected to gradually resume starting from the end of March this year.

(3) Other production facilities

Operations are back on line at Daiichi Sankyo’s Akita and Odawara plants. Tatebayashi plant operations have been stopped temporarily due to planned power blackouts and minor equipment damage.

The effect on operations of the planned power blackouts will be announced when more details are known.

2.Product Supply

There are differences in the type of packaging units for each product, but the shutdown of operations is not expected to have an immediate impact on product supply since a two to three month stock of finished products are generally on hand at Daiichi Sankyo warehouses. The future product supply outlook will be announced after careful evaluation of the situation. If there are concerns about Daiichi Sankyo’s ability to provide a stable supply of products to customers, the company will make an announcement at the earliest possible time.

3.Medical Representative Activities in Japan

Daiichi Sankyo has temporarily stopped all sales activities in the Tohoku and north Kanto regions due to the seriousness of the disaster and the planned power blackouts.

4.Effect on Corporate Earnings

Daiichi Sankyo will announce any further impact on the company’s business performance due to the disaster and the planned power blackouts with due diligence.
