Tokyo, Japan (July 13, 2009) - Daiichi Sankyo Company, Limited (TSE:4568) announced that its affiliate, the Japan Research Foundation for Clinical Pharmacology (headquarters: Tokyo, Director General: Kiyoshi Morita) has established  "Japan Research Foundation for Clinical Pharmacology Research Award"  to recognize excellence in regards to research results in the field of clinical pharmacology last year and five young researchers were nominated for the second award this year.

Awardees are selected from research papers submitted from projects funded with subsidies from the foundation. Innovative research projects with expectations for future development are eligible for the award.

The Foundation hopes that the award will motivate young researchers in clinical pharmacology involved in establishment of appropriate drug treatments to encourage future research results. The conferment ceremony and presentations of the research themes will be held on November 5, 2009.

The mission of the Foundation is to promote clinical pharmacology and to foster clinical pharmacologists. The Foundation was established in 1975 and in its 34-year history it has worked on a variety of projects relating to clinical pharmacology including promotion of research, overseas studies for Japanese researchers and Asian international collaboration.
